How To

Here are 10 tips to live a healthy lifestyle

How to keep a healthy lifestyle

Our fast-paced world means that we aren't getting enough sleep, don't eat enough, drink too much alcohol, and smoke too many cigarettes. We don’t take proper care of our bodies.

When you work full-time, it is difficult to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program. It is even more difficult if you feel stressed. Then, your mind tells yourself that it cannot handle this situation any more so we feel guilty about it and give up.

You may feel that something is not right with your body. You should see a doctor and ask him/her what he/she thinks about your current condition. If there are no signs of something abnormal, stress from your job could be the cause.

Some people think they're lucky because their jobs let them go to the gym on a regular basis or they have friends who help them stay fit. But those people are actually lucky. They don't have problems. They control everything. I wish every person could be like them. Most people don't know how balance work and life. Many people end up with bad habits which eventually lead to diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and many others.

These tips can help you improve the quality of your life.

  1. Sleep well - at least 7 hours per night, maximum 8 hours. This includes proper sleeping positions and avoiding caffeine during the last hour before going to bed. Caffeine blocks melatonin hormones, making it difficult to fall asleep. Also, ensure your bedroom is darkened and clean. Consider using blackout curtains, especially if working late at night.
  2. Take a balanced breakfast. Try to avoid sugar products, fried foods, processed food and white breads. Include fruits, vegetables, and whole grain for lunch. It is recommended that afternoon snacks be high in fiber and protein, such as nuts and seeds, beans, fish, and dairy products. Avoid snacking on unhealthy foods like chips, candy, cookies, cakes, and sodas.
  3. Drink lots of water. We don't have enough. Water is good for us. It helps us lose more calories, keeps the skin soft and youthful, improves digestion, and flushes out toxins. You can lose weight by drinking six glasses of water per day. Your urine color is the best way to determine your hydration levels. Yellow means dehydrated; orange means slightly dehydrated; pink means normal; red means overhydrated; and clear means highly-overhydrated.
  4. Exercise - It has been proven that regular physical activity can improve energy levels and reduce depression. Walking is a simple exercise that can improve your mood. Although walking may seem simple, it is not easy. It requires concentration and effort. Your brain needs to keep your eyes on the road and focus on breathing slow and deep. A 30-minute walk for 100 to 150 calories can be burned in 30 minutes. Start slowly and increase your pace gradually. Do not forget to stretch after exercising to prevent injuries.
  5. Positive thinking is key to mental health. When we think positively, we create a happy environment inside ourselves. Negative thoughts cause anxiety and drain our energy. Focus on what you want and do the things that will keep you motivated. Reduce the number of tasks you have to do in order to feel less overwhelmed. Be aware that you will fail at times, but don't despair. Just get back up and start over.
  6. It is important to learn how to say no. We are often so busy, that we don't realize how much time we spend on unimportant tasks. It is important to be able to say No when needed. Being polite when you say "no" does not mean that you are rude. You are simply saying "no" to something. You will always find another way to do the job. Set boundaries. Ask someone else to help you out. Or simply delegate this work to someone else.
  7. Take care to your body. Keep an eye on your diet. Healthy eating habits will increase your metabolism and help you lose weight. You should avoid eating too many oily and heavy foods, as they tend to increase cholesterol. Good advice is to eat three meals and 2 snacks each day. Aim to consume 2000-2500 calories each day.
  8. Meditate - Meditation is a great stress reliever and reduces anxiety. Sitting still with closed eyes allows your mind to relax. This exercise will allow you to have clarity of thought which can be very useful in making decisions. Meditation can help you be calmer, happier, and more productive.
  9. Do not skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of each day. Skipping breakfast can lead to eating too much lunch. It's never too late for a healthy breakfast, as long as it is eaten within an hour of your waking hours. Eating breakfast boosts your energy and helps you manage your hunger better.
  10. Healthy food is the best. Food can have a profound effect on our moods. Avoid junk food and food that contains artificial ingredients or preservatives. These products keep your body acidic and trigger cravings. Vitamins and minerals found in fruits and vegetables can improve your overall health.
